Voting has commenced for the Minnesota Department of Transportation's (MnDOT) 2024-25 Name a Snowplow contest. The department announced that the top eight finalists will have their names featured on MnDOT snowplows, with one name designated for each district.
Interested individuals can view the list of finalists and cast their votes at mndot.gov/nameasnowplow. Voting is open until noon on Friday, February 7. Participants are allowed to vote once and can choose up to eight preferred names.
In December, MnDOT received over 7,300 submissions for snowplow names. The staff reviewed these suggestions and selected 50 finalists based on uniqueness, frequency of submission, Minnesota-specific ideas, and recognizability.
The winning names will be revealed in February. Minnesotans are encouraged to follow @mndot on Facebook, X, and Instagram for updates regarding the Name a Snowplow contest as well as winter weather alerts, safety messages, project updates, and more.
This marks MnDOT’s fifth Name a Snowplow contest. To date, 32 snowplows have been named through previous contests. Additionally, MnDOT staff have named four other snowplows: Giiwedin-The North Wind; Goonodaabaan-Snow Vehicle (both Ojibwe); Icamna-Blizzard; and Wakta!-Watch Out! (both Dakota), acknowledging highways near tribal lands.
