Rep. Ilhan Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of statements on her official Twitter account regarding recent developments in Congress and healthcare legislation.

On November 12, 2025, Omar congratulated a fellow lawmaker on her new role, stating: "Congratulations to Rep. Adelita Grijalva on her swearing in! Proud to welcome her to Congress and even prouder that her very first act is signing on as the 218th signature to the Epstein discharge petition."

Later that evening, Omar criticized recently passed Senate legislation affecting healthcare premiums and coverage. She wrote: "The Senate-passed 'deal' is a betrayal of working people and a sham. It is indefensible to allow 20 million Americans to see their premiums double and let millions lose their healthcare coverage. Voting NO."

Continuing her critique into the following day, she posted: "They’ll bend the rules to enrich themselves, but won’t lift a finger to protect your access to affordable healthcare."

Omar has represented Minnesota’s 5th District since 2019 after succeeding Keith Ellison in Congress. Before joining Congress, she served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982, Omar moved to Minneapolis where she currently resides. She earned her BA from North Dakota State University in 2011.
