The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has opened the application process for its Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation (AGRI) Crop Research Grant. The grant aims to support applied crop research projects that can enhance the quality, quantity, or value of agricultural products in Minnesota’s $13.5 billion crop sector.

Eligible applicants include any organization, research entity, individual, or business based in Minnesota with capabilities in agricultural research. Projects should deliver benefits to Minnesota farmers and the state’s economy within three to seven years. Applicants are required to provide an outreach plan explaining how their findings will be shared with the public.

Priority will be given to proposals focusing on crops that typically have limited access to research funding. Projects that outline how their results or activities will reach farmers or rural communities facing economic challenges will also receive special consideration.

The MDA plans to distribute a total of $1.75 million through this grant round, with individual awards capped at $250,000 per project. More information about eligibility and application details is available on the AGRI Crop Research Grant webpage. The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. CT on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Funding for these grants comes from the MDA’s AGRI Program, which supports various initiatives across Minnesota aimed at advancing agriculture and renewable energy.
