The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has opened applications for its new Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation (AGRI) Works Grant Program. The initiative aims to support organizations and institutions working to improve agriculture, horticulture, and rural communities in the state through development, education, research, or marketing efforts.

According to the MDA, between five and 15 grants will be awarded through a competitive process. The total funding available is approximately $485,625. Individual grant awards will range from $5,000 to $75,000 and require recipients to provide a 50% match. Applicants must be in good standing with the State of Minnesota and may collaborate with other organizations. The program will prioritize legislatively created entities as well as projects that do not qualify for other MDA grants.

“The AGRI Works Grant will help fund innovative projects that advance Minnesota agriculture through a thoughtful and transparent review process,” said MDA Commissioner Thom Petersen. “We’re excited to see how partners across the state use this funding to support farmers and rural communities. I want to thank the state legislature for funding this program and for their continued commitment to investing in our state’s agricultural economy.”

Eligible expenses under the grant include employee salaries and fringe benefits, contracted services, equipment, and supplies needed for project completion. Detailed eligibility criteria and application instructions are available on the AGRI Works Grant webpage. Applications are due by 4 p.m. CT on Tuesday, December 16, 2025; notifications regarding funding decisions are expected by mid-February 2026.

The AGRI Works Grant is funded through the MDA’s broader AGRI Program, which provides financial support for farmers, agribusinesses, schools, and others in Minnesota focused on advancing agriculture and renewable energy across the state.
