Minnesota State Representative Natalie Zeleznikar (R-Fredenberg Township) released a statement following the Minnesota Supreme Court’s recent decision regarding a powerlifting case. In her response, Zeleznikar said, “For decades, women and girls have worked tirelessly to secure the rights guaranteed under Title IX. Unfortunately, those hard-earned protections continue to face challenges, and today’s ruling represents yet another setback for girls’ sports. This issue is about ensuring safety and fairness. Minnesotans agree that their daughters and granddaughters deserve a level playing field. House Republicans are committed to taking action early next session to reaffirm that girls’ sports are for girls.”
Zeleznikar noted that two bills she authored—House File 12 and House File 1233—were intended to address the issues raised by the court's decision but were blocked by House Democrats. She stated that these bills remain available for consideration when the Minnesota House reconvenes on February 17, 2026.
In addition to legislative matters, Zeleznikar shared reflections on recent events affecting the community and broader society. She called for a return to values such as respect, responsibility, and integrity in public life. Referencing the deaths of former Speaker Melissa Hortman and Charlie Kirk in separate incidents earlier in 2025, she emphasized the importance of valuing human life regardless of political differences: “It is impossible to comprehend how anyone could celebrate the death of another human being regardless of political party. First and foremost, we are human beings... At no point should tragedy ever be politicized or celebrated by anyone, on either side of the aisle.”
She also described her recent participation in various community activities including firefighter fundraisers in Gnesen and Solway, visits with local small businesses during helium drill testing in Isabella, attending events at Lakeville elementary school related to student safety measures—where she coauthored House File 15 supporting funding for school safety—and other local gatherings such as volleyball games supporting cancer fundraising efforts.
Zeleznikar encouraged adults across sectors—from education to government—to model behaviors grounded in character and empathy: “Generations before us understood that the cornerstone of a civilized society is character... It means doing the right thing when no one is watching, and respecting others even when we disagree.”
The representative concluded her message by urging residents to reaffirm shared values as an example for future generations.
