U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on August 11 and 12, 2025, addressing former President Donald Trump’s financial dealings, economic policy decisions, and sharing moments from her community engagement.
On August 11, Omar wrote: "73% of Trump’s $15.9 billion fortune comes from crypto schemes he advanced while in office. He gutted health care and SNAP, then pushed laws to boost his own shady crypto empire. Corruption in plain sight." This tweet was published at 17:44 UTC.
Later that day at 18:00 UTC, Omar shared an update about her local activities: "Had so much fun visiting the Minnesota Vikings Training Facility with my Youth Advisory Council! SKOL! "
On August 12 at 21:49 UTC, she commented on recent federal economic reporting decisions: "Trump’s solution to bad economic news? Don’t fix it, just hide it. Suspending the jobs report is the same deceitful playbook we’ve seen before: keep people in the dark, control the narrative, and hope no one notices the truth. Hiding the scoreboard doesn’t change the score."
Omar has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Keith Ellison and previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. She was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 and currently resides in Minneapolis. In addition to her legislative work, Omar holds a BA from North Dakota State University (see biographical background for Rep. Ilhan Omar).
