Rep. Ilhan Omar, U.S. Congresswoman representing Minnesota’s 5th district since 2019, shared updates on her recent community engagements and legislative priorities through a series of posts on social media.
On July 28, 2025, Omar described her visit with senior residents at the Pillars of Prospect Park alongside State Representative Mohamud Noor. She stated, "Spent an incredible afternoon with @mohamudnoor hearing from senior residents at the Pillars of Prospect Park. Seniors shared their hopes to not only protect Social Security Benefits, but EXPAND it. I will always fight to ensure our seniors have the resources they need to".
The following day, Omar thanked constituents who attended her monthly town hall in Richfield, emphasizing the importance of direct communication between elected officials and their communities. On July 29, she posted, "Thank you to all the Minnesotans who joined our monthly town hall in Richfield. Town halls give me the opportunity to hear directly from you and carry your priorities to the People’s House!"
Later that same day, Omar highlighted her participation in the grand opening of Wadaag Commons—a project aimed at addressing homelessness and increasing affordable housing options. She noted her role in securing federal support for this initiative: "It was my honor to join the grand opening of Wadaag Commons this morning. Wadaag aims to combat homelessness and provide folks with affordable housing options. I was proud to secure $1.8 million in federal funding for this project and I’ll keep fighting to invest in housing for".
Omar has represented Minnesota’s 5th District since replacing Keith Ellison in 2019 after previously serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982, she currently resides in Minneapolis and graduated from North Dakota State University with a BA in 2011.
