In her tweets, Omar addressed the Senate's decision to reduce funding for public broadcasters and voiced opposition to three cryptocurrency-related bills passed by Congress.
On July 17, Omar commented on cuts to public broadcasting, stating: "PBS and NPR are some of the last places people can turn to for local stories, trusted reporting, and emergency alerts. The Senate’s decision to slash funding for NPR and PBS is a disappointing step backward. Proud to sign on to this letter demanding Trump to protect the https://t.co/tMVGzC6cDF".
Later that day, she addressed legislative developments concerning cryptocurrency regulation. She wrote: "The passage of these three disastrous bills allows Donald Trump and his wealthy backers to write the rules they want for their own gain." In another tweet posted at the same time, Omar explained her vote against these measures: "I voted NO on the three crypto bills. These bills are not about helping consumers or promoting innovation. They are about protecting the profits of crypto insiders and billionaires while gutting the guardrails that protect the livelihoods of working people. (Thread )"
Omar has served in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Keith Ellison. She previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982, she currently resides in Minneapolis and holds a bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University.
