Rep. Ilhan Omar, a U.S. Congress member representing Minnesota’s 5th district since 2019, recently shared her thoughts on several pressing issues through social media.

On July 7, 2025, Rep. Omar expressed her sorrow over the severe flooding in Texas and its tragic impact. She noted particularly the young girls at Camp Mystic who lost their lives due to the disaster. Her message conveyed appreciation for first responders and rescue teams working tirelessly in the aftermath of this natural catastrophe. "My heart continues to break over the news of the catastrophic flooding in Texas..."

The following day, on July 8, 2025, she posted a brief yet enthusiastic message on social media celebrating an unspecified piece of positive news with a simple remark: "Incredible news! "

Later that same day, Rep. Omar addressed concerns regarding decisions affecting veterans' care by criticizing actions perceived as detrimental to the Veterans Affairs agency's ability to serve those who rely on it. She questioned how one could claim to support veterans while simultaneously reducing resources essential for their care and benefits: "How do you claim to care for veterans while gutting the agency that cares for them?"

Ilhan Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 and has been living in Minneapolis since moving from Somalia. She graduated from North Dakota State University with a BA in 2011.
