On May 16, 2025, Rep. Omar commented on the Republican Party's budget proposal, stating that the GOP's "big, beautiful" budget is a failure. She noted that Republicans were unable to secure enough votes within their own party to pass their budget plan out of committee. Omar emphasized this as an opportunity to continue advocating for a budget that prioritizes working people. "The GOP 'big, beautiful' budget is a big, beautiful bust."
Later that day, Rep. Omar expressed her support for a resolution recognizing the Nakba and affirming the rights of Palestinian refugees. She co-sponsored this resolution alongside Rep. Rashida Tlaib and highlighted the ongoing nature of the Nakba while calling for an end to what she described as genocide in Gaza and restoration of funding to UNRWA. Ilhan Omar has served in Congress since replacing Keith Ellison in 2019 and previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982, she moved to Minneapolis where she currently resides after completing her education with a BA from North Dakota State University in 2011.
