Representative Ilhan Omar, serving Minnesota’s 5th district since 2019, recently expressed her appreciation and engagement with her constituents and community initiatives through a series of tweets. These updates reflect her ongoing commitments and activities both locally and nationally.
On April 24, 2025, Omar stated, "It’s my honor to present Tesfaye Deyasso with a Congressional Record publication recognizing his achievement of being named NALC’s 2025 National Hero of the Year, earned after saving a driver’s life by pulling them out of a burning vehicle. Thank you for your incredible service."
In another post on the same day at 21:24 UTC, Omar shared her involvement in Middle Eastern peace efforts by meeting with local members of J Street. She tweeted, "I met with community members from the local chapter of J Street to discuss our shared support for a resumed ceasefire and bringing more humanitarian aid into Gaza, and working towards a lasting peace in the region."
Later that day, Omar visited an educational health initiative, reporting, "Today, I visited Wellstone International High School’s new school-based health clinic, where students are able to access the basic health care they need. Clinics like these build healthier communities by working to reduce barriers to care, improve attendance and academic."
Ilhan Omar continues to serve her district following previous terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives and holds a BA from North Dakota State University. She resides in Minneapolis and is originally from Mogadishu, Somalia.
