Rep. Ilhan Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on October 3, 2025, to highlight recent legislative efforts and address ongoing national issues.
In a post published at 17:16 UTC, Omar shared her participation at a labor event in Minneapolis: "I was honored to open @SEIU's Asian Pacific Islander Summit in Minneapolis & celebrate the incredible achievements of AAPI workers. As Ranking Member on the Workforce Protections Subcommittee in the House, I'll keep fighting to defend labor protections at the federal level."
Later that day, at 17:38 UTC, Omar addressed school meal debt affecting children across the country: "Across the country, kids are denied hot lunches or even chased by debt collectors because they can't pay for school meals. I’m reintroducing the No Shame at School Act with @SenTinaSmith to ensure no child is punished for school meal debt. My op-ed: https://t.co/kVJyQleYnM"
At 20:38 UTC on the same day, Omar commented on a government shutdown and party control in Washington: "Reminder: Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. This is their shutdown."

She was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 and currently resides in Minneapolis. In addition to her political work, she graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in 2011.
