U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar, who serves Minnesota’s 5th district in Congress, addressed a range of topics on her social media account this week, including greetings to the Jewish community, commentary on federal budget negotiations, and her commitment to engaging with constituents.

On September 22, Omar posted a message for the Jewish New Year: "To the Jewish community in Minnesota and around the world, I wish you a healthy and peaceful New Year! L’Shana Tova"

The following day, she commented on ongoing congressional budget discussions: "The deadline to fund the government is just one week away. Democrats are fighting to reverse Republicans' cuts to Medicaid and protect your access to healthcare. Republicans are refusing to negotiate. They would rather shut the government down than give you healthcare." This post was published on September 23.

Later that same day, Omar shared thoughts about her work representing Minnesotans: "The best part of my job is getting to connect directly with Minnesotans! I made a promise to cogovern with you and I'll keep fighting to put your priorities first in the People's House. "

Omar has served in Congress since 2019 after replacing Keith Ellison as representative for Minnesota’s 5th district. She previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982, Omar resides in Minneapolis and holds a bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University.
