Rep. Ilhan Omar, who represents Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District in the U.S. Congress, recently shared updates on her legislative and district activities through a series of posts on social media.
On September 12, 2025, Omar expressed her commitment to her constituents, stating, "I'm honored to represent Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District every single day. Here's what I have been up to in the district https://t.co/s7yDa1PBcb".
The following day, she highlighted her recent work in Congress with a focus on foreign policy and human rights issues. On September 13, 2025, Omar wrote, "Here’s what I’ve been working on in Congress this week: Proud to co-sponsor the Block the Bombs Act. No child should fall asleep wondering if their home will still be standing in the morning. U.S. weapons are fueling that nightmare in Gaza and it has to end. https://t.co/k8UmNsFuU1".
In another post made on the same day, Omar discussed concerns about government overreach into civil society organizations: "In @TLHumanRights, we dug into how authoritarian governments twist “transparency” laws to monitor and shut down human rights organizations that challenge their policies, something the Trump administration is actively doing. https://t.co/do7VsiXjuF".
Omar has served as the representative for Minnesota’s 5th district since 2019 after succeeding Keith Ellison. Prior to her congressional role, she was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 and now residing in Minneapolis at age 40, Omar earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Dakota State University in 2011.
