Rep. Ilhan Omar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th district, shared a series of tweets on July 8, 2025, addressing both local and international issues.

In her first tweet of the day, Rep. Omar expressed pride in two constituents from Minneapolis. "Minnesota proud! Congratulations to Emily and Sophia Alexander from Minneapolis for being selected to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of the 2025 National Youth Ensembles." She commended them for representing Minnesota's 5th District on a national stage.

Later that day, she turned her attention to international concerns with a statement about events in Kenya. "I am deeply troubled by the deaths and escalating violence in Kenya from police and security forces on protesters." Rep. Omar condemned the use of lethal ammunition and other aggressive tactics against peaceful assembly.

Her final tweet addressed an unspecified issue related to public service responsiveness. "Instead of wasting time responding to me, take the time to respond directly to the people you serve who clearly need your help and have yet to receive it." This comment suggests frustration with governmental or organizational responses to constituent needs.

Rep. Ilhan Omar has been serving in Congress since 2019 after replacing Keith Ellison. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, she has lived in Minneapolis since immigrating to the United States and holds a BA from North Dakota State University.
