Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, expressed concerns over Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's support for marijuana legalization. Cortes argued that such a stance wrongly associates marijuana with freedom while contributing to crime, health risks, and social decline. He made these remarks to the Minnesota State Wire.
"No wonder a political hack like Tim Walz thinks that numbing the mind leads to being ‘free," said Cortes, Founder of League of American Workers. "Tim Walz was a disaster as a vice presidential nominee, does his cheerleading for drugs explain some of his dreadful, seemingly mind-dead performances during the campaign? Legal weed doesn't make a city or state ‘free.' Instead it creates crime, unmotivated citizens, health risks, and terrible stench. Do better, Tim Walz."
According to the Texas Tribune, the Texas House has approved Senate Bill 3, which seeks to prohibit the sale and consumption of all products containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), including Delta-8 and Delta-9 variants. Only non-intoxicating cannabinoids like CBD and CBG would remain legal under this legislation.
Governor Walz responded to a post on X regarding this development by stating: "Texans, flee the nanny state and come up north to enjoy the land of the free."
If enacted, Senate Bill 3 would criminalize the possession and sale of THC products in Texas, imposing penalties ranging from misdemeanors to third-degree felonies. According to Texas Policy Research, the legislation also introduces stricter licensing and registration requirements for hemp retailers, potentially favoring larger corporations over small businesses.
Studies reported by Medical News Today suggest that regular cannabis consumption can impair attention, memory, and decision-making abilities. These cognitive impairments may contribute to challenges in academic performance and hinder intellectual development.
Cortes is also noted as a former Trump campaign adviser and political commentator who served on President Trump's Hispanic Advisory Council.
