Pete Stauber, Representative of Minnesota, said that federal immigration agents require more resources for enforcement operations in the state. The statement was made on X.

"ICE is doing excellent work to keep our communities in Minnesota safe," said Stauber. "This week, the House will pass our big, beautiful bill to give ICE more resources to arrest and deport illegal criminals like Llangari Inga."

In May 2025, federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota gained national attention after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested German Adriano Llangari Inga, an Ecuadorian national charged with vehicular homicide. According to the Department of Homeland Security, he had been previously released twice by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office despite ICE detainers, due to guidance from the Minnesota Attorney General discouraging cooperation without judicial warrants. This case has reignited debates over public safety and sanctuary policies in Minnesota.

According to KTTC News, ICE’s regional office, which includes Minnesota, recorded about 2,600 arrests in 2024, down from nearly 4,900 in 2023. This decline reflects a broader trend over four years, with over 12,000 total arrests reported during that time. The drop may be linked to shifting enforcement priorities or limited resources in the region.

As reported by the Minnesota Reformer, ICE awarded approximately $7 million in federal contracts to Minnesota since January 2024. This amount is significantly less than the hundreds of millions allocated to states like Texas or Virginia. Despite this disparity in funding, Minnesota has played a key role in supplying ammunition and leasing gun ranges for ICE use, suggesting a niche but important contribution to immigration enforcement infrastructure.

According to OnTheIssues.org, Stauber is a Republican representing Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District since 2019 and is a vocal advocate for strict immigration enforcement. He supports stronger border security measures, including the use of physical barriers and often criticizes policies that he believes enable unlawful entry into the U.S. Stauber’s positions align with his broader law-and-order platform.
