Minnesota Republicans are launching an appeal against the dismissal of their case against Gov. Tim Walz, according to the Minnesota House of Representatives website.
The lawsuit alleges that the governor has abused power and violated the Constitution with regard to the mandates set forth by his office in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The lawmakers involved have appealed to the Supreme Court of Minnesota in the hopes of gaining an accelerated review of the case.
The primary complaint of the lawsuit is that Walz issued a mandate without involvement from the state legislature and in doing so, violated the state Constitution. There are thirteen state senators currently listed on the lawsuit. To pay for the lawsuit, a GoFundMe campaign has been established, which can be found here.
This lawsuit comes not long after widespread criticism of Walz for his handling of the COVID-19 outbreak and issues related to negligence with regard to protests and riots in Minneapolis and the surrounding areas.
