On November 25, 2024, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) published its final proposed rules for the Minnesota Paid Leave program. DEED accepted public comments on these proposals until January 3, 2024. The department will now review the feedback and consider further modifications to the rules.

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), in collaboration with the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, the Minnesota Business Partnership, and Hospitality Minnesota, submitted their comments on these rules. They emphasized areas needing improvement to create a balance between employers and employees, ensure program integrity, and manage costs.

"Minnesota Paid Leave is the largest mandate ever imposed on businesses in Minnesota," stated NFIB. The organization continues to advocate for changes to safeguard small business owners from potential negative impacts.
