St. Mary's College issued the following announcement on May 14
COVID-19 may have put a halt to the spring athletic seasons in 2020, but not even a pandemic could keep Saint Mary's University's James Green from adding another post-season honor to his ever-growing baseball resume.
Green — who went 1-1 in his two starts for the Cardinal baseball team before his junior year was cut short — was named CoSIDA Academic All-District® VI, it was announced Thursday.
The 2020 Academic All-District® team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® selections will be announced from June 8-11.
Because of the shortened season, All-District honorees were selected on their career statistics and a 3.30 cumulative GPA or higher, rather than solely on their 2020 performance.
And Green's career numbers are eye-popping to say the least.
Green, who hauled in eight post-season honors following the 2019 season — including ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com All-American honors and ABCA/Rawlings Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year — is making his second straight appearance on the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team.
Green — who helped lead the Cardinals to a second straight MIAC Tournament appearance a year ago — compiled a near-perfect 8-1 record and a microscopic 1.85 ERA in 2019. He was 1-1 with 3.75 ERA in his two starts in 2020 and boasts an 11-5 record and 1.95 ERA through his first three seasons in a Cardinal uniform.
Green has tossed 129.1 innings in three seasons with Saint Mary's and owns a whopping eight complete games in 20 career starts. He has surrendered just 18 walks and has struck out 122 — including a career-high 13 against No. 1-ranked Concordia-Chicago on March 22, 2019.
Green was one of three players from the MIAC named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® 6 Team, being joined by Bethel's Jake Marsh and Gustavus' Carter Clemensen.
