Minnesota has decided to pay refunds to drivers who were overcharged for registration of their vehicles.
The Department of Vehicle Services of Minnesota will pay refunds worth $337,500 to residents who were overcharged for their vehicle registration. More than 150,000 residents of the state will be paid $2.25 in the coming month after they were charged a registration technology surcharge twice for shifting their title or for renewal of their vehicle registration.
According to Star Tribune, Minnesota law has a provision for title technology surcharge and registration technology surcharge a fee of $2.25 is charged each. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services division (DPS-DVS) fetch both these fees when residents shifted vehicle titles while renewing the registration of their vehicles. Later, the legislation was amended and the DPS-DVS decided that the customers will have to pay only one fee if both these tasks are being performed simultaneously.
The Director of the Department of Vehicle Services of Minnesota, Emma Corrie, issued a statement saying that it is of utmost importance to the department to refund all the customers who have paid more than they were supposed to.
