Three individuals have been indicted by a federal grand jury on Hobbs Act Robbery charges following a series of armed gas station robberies that led to the temporary closure of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Dylan Charles Jungwirth, 21, Kenneth Toy Spight, 21, and Kemonie Hurd, 18, allegedly carried out three robberies using a realistic airsoft gun to threaten employees.

“The State Fair is one Minnesota’s most cherished traditions. It is a time for all of us to come together and celebrate the state and the end of summer,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson. “These defendants brought violence to that celebration with their armed robbery spree.  Anyone who does that will see federal charges.”

The events began early on August 17, 2025, when Jungwirth and Spight reportedly robbed a Speedway gas station in Roseville at 5:56am. Hours later, at 8:34am, Jungwirth, Spight, and Hurd allegedly targeted a BP gas station in Little Canada. A third robbery occurred at another BP gas station in Roseville at 9:05am involving all three suspects.

During the final incident, one defendant demanded the cashier’s wallet. After the cashier refused and attempted to grab the weapon, he was struck on the head with it by one of the defendants. The attack resulted in a laceration and burst blood vessel in his eye.

Following these incidents, law enforcement pursued a suspect vehicle into St. Paul where it crashed. One individual was apprehended immediately while two others fled into nearby woods but were subsequently arrested after an area search.

The robberies took place as preparations for the Minnesota State Fair were underway nearby. Due to police activity near the fairgrounds during the pursuit and search operations, authorities issued an emergency alert instructing people to avoid areas south of the fairgrounds and temporarily closed access until an “all clear” message was later released.

All three defendants appeared in federal court yesterday afternoon and remain detained pending further proceedings. If convicted on these charges they could face up to life imprisonment.

This case stems from an investigation conducted by multiple agencies including the FBI, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Fair Police Department, Roseville Police Department, and St. Anthony Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristian Weir is leading prosecution efforts.

An indictment is merely an allegation; all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
