Rep. Ilhan Omar, U.S. Congresswoman representing Minnesota’s 5th district since 2019, has recently highlighted several initiatives and concerns on her social media accounts, focusing on community support and food security in Minnesota.
On September 6, 2025, Omar posted about a bipartisan effort to honor those affected by a tragedy at Annunciation Catholic School: "I joined @senamyklobuchar in leading the full MN Delegation in introducing a resolution honoring the victims and survivors at Annunciation Catholic School."
That same day, she raised alarm over recent policy changes affecting federal nutrition assistance programs: "Trump and Republicans’ historic cuts to SNAP will jeopardize food security for 440,000 seniors, working families, and children across Minnesota. I met with MN Dept. of Children, Youth and Families Commissioner Tikki Brown to discuss what we can do to fight back."
On September 8, Omar invited constituents to participate in an upcoming public event: "I'm hosting my September Town Hall this Saturday at 11am CT in Robbinsdale! Join me for a conversation about the issues facing our communities and how we can work together to solve them. To learn more and register, click on the link below. https://t.co/cHGvGcY3ww"

Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 and now residing in Minneapolis, Omar holds a BA from North Dakota State University.
