The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has opened the application process for organizations interested in administering the Dairy Profitability Enhancement Program (DPEP). The program aims to provide information and technical assistance to dairy farms across Minnesota, regardless of their size, with the goal of improving financial outcomes and ensuring long-term sustainability.
According to MDA, eligible applicants for the Dairy Profitability Enhancement Grant must be regional or statewide organizations capable of delivering support to dairy producers. These organizations are expected to offer technical assistance that can be provided individually, as a team, or through other proven methods. All projects must focus on serving dairy farms located within Minnesota.
“DPEP is intended to provide information and technical assistance to dairy farms of all sizes to enhance their financial success and long-term sustainability,” according to the agency.
Funding for this initiative totals $500,000 per year for fiscal years 2026 and 2027. Organizations may apply for grants ranging from $25,000 up to $500,000 annually. Applications will be accepted until September 24, 2025 at 4 p.m. Central Time. More details about eligibility criteria and application procedures can be found on the program’s official webpage.
Eligible expenses under this grant include staff time and travel—though out-of-state travel requires prior approval—program promotion activities, staff training and professional development opportunities, as well as equipment and supplies necessary for supporting participating dairy operations. However, projects must commence only after all parties have signed the grant contract and reached the official start date.
The department states that these resources are meant specifically to help participating organizations deliver direct support services that aid in boosting profitability for Minnesota’s dairy sector.
Interested parties are encouraged by MDA officials to review all requirements before submitting applications ahead of the stated deadline.
