The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced it is seeking input from the public as it prepares for the 2026 legislative session. The department is inviting farmers, food businesses, and others involved in agriculture to share their ideas for potential policy and program proposals.
To facilitate this process, the MDA will hold two virtual public input sessions via Zoom. These sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, from noon to 1 p.m., and Thursday, September 4, from 5 to 6 p.m. Participation in these sessions is free, but registration is required.
In addition to the live sessions, an online form will be available for written submissions until Wednesday, September 10. This approach aims to ensure that individuals who cannot attend the virtual meetings still have an opportunity to provide feedback.
The next legislative session in Minnesota begins on February 17, 2026. During this session, the MDA may propose changes to state law based on the input received. The Governor and Legislature established a two-year budget during the 2025 session; however, additional revisions or new measures may be considered in 2026.
The department encourages anyone impacted by food and agriculture systems in Minnesota to participate in this process. Information about the MDA’s mission, leadership team, and responsibilities can be found on its official website.
