Michelle Fischbach, Representative of Minnesota, said that the One Big Beautiful Bill will cut regulations and help farmers preserve their operations for future generations. The statement was made on X.
"Minnesota farmers don't want handouts- they want fewer regulations and the ability to pass their life's work to the next generation," said Michelle Louise Fischbach, Minnesota Republican Congressional House of Representatives Primary Candidate. "That's exactly what the OBBB will deliver."
The One Big Beautiful Bill provides significant benefits for Minnesota farmers by making the federal estate tax exemption permanent and raising it to $15 million. It also expands crop insurance access and strengthens farm safety net programs like Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC). According to Representative Brad Finstad, these measures aim to help family farms remain operational through generational transitions.
Nearly 47% of Minnesota farms involve two generations in daily operations, and about 15% have three generations working together. These figures, reported by Minnesota Ag Connection, underscore the importance of succession planning in preserving Minnesota’s agricultural heritage.
Minnesota farmers have advocated for changes to the state estate tax, which currently exempts the first $3 million of an estate and allows an additional $2 million deduction for qualified farmland. Wagner Legal notes that this provides up to $5 million in protection for heirs but still leaves some farms exposed.
Michelle Fischbach has represented Minnesota’s 7th District since 2021 after a long tenure in the Minnesota Senate and a brief period as lieutenant governor. According to Wikipedia, she focuses on agriculture, rural development, conservative values, and Second Amendment rights.
