Rep. Ilhan Omar, representing Minnesota's 5th District, actively voices her concerns and initiatives through social media. In a series of recent tweets, she addressed educational policy, the Trump administration, and celebrated a notable individual, each reflecting her ongoing legislative and community engagements.

On April 30, 2025, Omar addressed potential changes to the Pell Grant Program, emphasizing her stance on inclusion for part-time students. She stated, "Excluding part-time students from the Pell Grant Program will do nothing to improve educational outcomes in this country or boost the economy." She expressed commitment by introducing an amendment to protect the program for approximately 912,000 part-time students nationwide.

Later that day, Omar commented on the ongoing actions of the Trump administration since the former president's re-election. On April 30, 2025, she tweeted about the impacts, asserting that "the damage is already staggering" after 100 days of Trump's return to the White House. She mentioned specific concerns, such as public servants being dismissed, Elon Musk given government access, and the initiation of a trade war, highlighting the administration's governance style as authoritarian.

On May 1, 2025, Omar recognized Tesfaye Deyasso, who was honored as the 2025 National Hero of the Year by the National Association of Letter Carriers. She acknowledged his life-saving actions and contributions to public service. Her tweet read, "His heroism is a testament to the strength and compassion found in our communities and federal workers." Omar expressed her honor in acknowledging his bravery and achievements.

Ilhan Omar, 40, was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, and resides in Minneapolis. She has served in the U.S. Congress since 2019 and holds a bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University. Omar's previous roles include serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019, succeeding Keith Ellison in Congress.
