The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will conduct a public meeting on February 25 at the Yanmar Arena in Grand Rapids. The session is part of an ongoing study concerning the Highway 2/169 corridor through Grand Rapids and La Prairie. The meeting will begin with doors opening at 5 p.m., followed by a presentation at 5:30.
This study examines Highway 2 from NW 19th Avenue to NE 7th Street and Highway 169 from Highway 2 to the Mississippi River. MnDOT is assessing current traffic volumes, operations, safety conditions, and future developments in these areas. The study's scope includes collecting existing traffic data, analyzing crashes, scanning potential environmental impacts, developing preliminary corridor concepts, estimating project costs, evaluating alternative concepts, and selecting a preferred option for the corridor.
"The study will provide intersection and corridor recommendations to increase safety for all traffic," according to MnDOT. It also aims to enhance pedestrian and bicycle access across both highways.
A community survey seeking feedback on proposed alternatives will be available online and at the meeting. Those unable to attend can find materials on MnDOT’s project website.
