The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has announced the commencement of tree and brush removal along Highway 19 in Marshall. This preparatory work is set to begin within the next two weeks, ahead of the larger Hwy 19 reconstruction project slated to start in May. The department aims to complete tree removal by March 31.

During this period, drivers may experience shoulder and lane closures due to the ongoing tree cutting operations. Additionally, flaggers might be present during the cleanup and removal of downed trees and brush. Travelers are urged to reduce speed in the area and remain vigilant for workers and heavy machinery.

Clearing efforts will focus on specific areas from Marlene Street through the Bruce Street intersection. This is a necessary step to facilitate construction and sidewalk improvements without interfering with the nesting season of northern long-eared bats in spring.

The broader Hwy 19 reconstruction project is planned over two years. It includes pavement replacement, updates to sanitary sewer and watermain systems, construction of a single-lane roundabout, as well as sidewalk and pedestrian ramp upgrades to align with current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Replacement of removed trees is scheduled for fall 2026.
