WASHINGTON, DC – Following her vote against the GOP debt ceiling bill, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig issued the following statement:

“The U.S. cannot default on our debt – but we cannot accept House Republicans’ reckless plan either. This bill risks American jobs, our nation’s credit rating, hard-earned retirement savings, health care access and our entire economy. The GOP bill would cut essential resources for veterans, schools and first responders and weaken the biofuels tax credits we passed last year to support Minnesota’s family farmers.

“Congress should have a robust debate, with members of both parties, about how to get federal spending under control. But first, we must pass a clean debt limit bill.

“The bottom line is that the GOP’s bill would hurt my constituents and all Americans – so I didn’t just vote ‘no,’ I voted ‘hell no.’”
