The Wisconsin-Minnesota Twin Cities-Milwaukee-Chicago (TCMC) passenger Rail Project is the recipient of a $31.8 million grant from the federal government, according to The Center Square.
With the funds, the project is slated to include an additional round trip among the Twin Cities, La Crosse, Milwaukee and Chicago. The route will go along the current Amtrak Empire Builder.
“The expanded service provides a much-improved connection between the Midwest economic hubs of Minneapolis/St. Paul, La Crosse, Milwaukee and Chicago. Just as important is the enhanced service for residents in the many rural communities. They will have increased travel options, with better reliability and on-time performance,” Craig Thompson, Wisconsin Department of Transportation secretary-designee, said in a statement to The Center Square.
At the same time, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) also announced the TCMC was gifted with a Consolidated Railroad Infrastructure and Safety Improvement (CRISI) grant for the final touches on the design, and to better the railroad in general.
