The Republican Party of Minnesota has only listed President Donald Trump as GOP nominee on statewide primary election ballots, a move that drew an unsuccessful legal challenge from another presidential hopeful.
A businessman named Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, who aims to secure the GOP nomination, and a voter named James Martin filed a lawsuit after Trump was the only one listed on the ballot, KVRR Local News reported.
Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Loire Gildea threw out the petition after finding that the claim didn’t have any legal footing. Gildea suggested that voters were able to write in other names, but major parties alone determine what names will be printed on ballots in presidential primaries.
The petitioners had said that political parties making decisions about names on ballots was unconstitutional.
The recent decision by the Gildea means early voting in the March 3 primary can proceed according to plan.
