The Wright County Highway Department announced on April 17 that spring weight load restrictions for vehicles on county highways and roads will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. Monday, April 20.

These restrictions, which have been in place since March 3, are used each year to protect pavement during the period when frost beneath the road bed melts and makes roads more vulnerable to damage.

The department said the annual measure is necessary because thawing conditions can weaken road surfaces, making them more susceptible to heavy vehicle traffic. By limiting vehicle weights during this time, officials aim to prevent costly repairs and extend the lifespan of local infrastructure.

With warmer weather stabilizing road conditions, authorities determined it is now safe to remove these limits. The lifting of restrictions means commercial vehicles and other heavy equipment may resume normal operations on affected routes starting Monday morning.

County officials encourage drivers and businesses to remain attentive for any future updates regarding road maintenance or seasonal changes.
