Uncommon Loon Brewing Company in Chisago City was featured on May 1 as part of Minnesota’s Shop Local initiative, following a visit from economic development partners at the local, regional, and state levels.

The recognition underscores the brewery’s role in supporting local business growth and community engagement. The spotlight is intended to promote small businesses that contribute to their local economies.

Uncommon Loon Brewing Company opened its doors in 2019 with support from the Minnesota Small Business Development Center, Amplio 504 financing, MidWestOne Bank, and other community lenders. Since then, it has built a strong customer base and recently expanded its operations by investing in a canning system for broader product distribution.

The brewery operates out of a historic building that once housed a fire station and ballroom. This space remains important to the community by hosting organizations, events, and celebrations. The owners were recognized as Minnesota “Encore Entrepreneurs” by the U.S. Small Business Administration for successfully starting their business after age 50.

The feature as part of Shop Local reflects ongoing efforts to highlight businesses that drive economic activity while preserving community spaces.
