Representative Michelle Fischbach of Minnesota said that the MOMS Act will expand access to resources that help pregnant women carry to term and raise their children with confidence. The statement was made on X.
“I am committed to empowering all women and ensuring they feel supported in choosing life,” said Fischbach. “For some, abortion may feel like the only option. I introduced the MOMS Act to support women before, during, and after they give birth. It improves access to resources and makes sure women have everything they need right at their fingertips.”
In May 2025, Representative Fischbach reintroduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act to expand maternal support services and promote alternatives to abortion. According to her official press release, the legislation includes provisions to enhance postpartum care, enforce child support obligations starting at conception, and improve access to pregnancy support programs. The bill is part of Fischbach’s broader agenda to strengthen family-centered policies in federal law.
Federal programs currently supporting pregnant women and new mothers include the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and the Healthy Start initiative. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Health Resources and Services Administration, WIC offers nutrition assistance, healthcare referrals, and breastfeeding support, while Healthy Start provides education and community-based services to improve maternal outcomes. These programs aim to reduce health disparities and ensure continuity of care.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. maternal mortality rate reached 33.2 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2021, significantly higher than in peer nations. The CDC also reports stark disparities, with Black women experiencing mortality rates nearly 3.5 times greater than white women. These outcomes reflect urgent challenges in equitable access to quality maternal healthcare.
Fischbach, a Republican from Minnesota’s 7th District, has prioritized maternal and child health throughout her tenure in Congress. According to her official website, she has introduced legislation to protect pregnancy centers and expand resources for pregnant and parenting women. Her record reflects a focus on supporting life-affirming services and strengthening support networks for families.
