Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has represented Minnesota's 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently shared updates on her engagements and initiatives via social media. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, Omar moved to Minneapolis and pursued a career in politics after earning a BA from North Dakota State University.

On May 10, 2025, Omar expressed gratitude towards Rachel Cohen for her principled stance against former President Trump's agenda. "I met with Rachel Cohen and thanked her for standing up for what’s right," she stated. Omar highlighted Cohen's decision to resign from her firm and organize over 1,500 lawyers to defend democracy.

In another post on the same day, Omar discussed hosting a briefing focused on U.S.-Africa policy concerning recent administrative changes. She noted the adverse effects of dismantling USAID under Trump and DOGE’s administration. "I hosted a US-Africa Policy Working Group briefing on the devastating human toll of Trump and DOGE’s dismantling of USAID," she wrote.

Additionally, Rep. Omar recognized Ted Pouliot's ongoing contributions to Minneapolis at age 91 through his fundraising efforts for nonprofits via art. "At 91, Ted Pouliot continues to serve Minneapolis by raising funds for nonprofits through his art," she remarked as she honored him on the House Floor.

Ilhan Omar has been active in various roles since entering public service, including serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives before joining Congress.
