Representative Ilhan Omar, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 5th district since 2019, recently shared a series of statements on social media addressing both local and international issues. Omar, born in Mogadishu, Somalia, and currently residing in Minneapolis, highlighted her involvement with community leaders and voiced concerns over federal funding delays and international conflicts.
On March 19, 2025, Omar tweeted about her meeting with Columbia Heights Mayor Amáda Márquez Simula and other local leaders to discuss the impact of federal funding delays by the Trump Administration. She stated that they "discussed ways we can get them the support they need to continue their critical work for our community."
Later that day, Omar expressed her strong disapproval of military actions overseas by stating: "Trump is now committing war crimes against Yemeni civilians. Americans are sick and tired of endless war." She urged for an end to the bombing.
In another post on March 19, 2025, Omar honored Hennepin County Commissioner Heather Edelson with a Congressional Record recognizing her six years of service in the Minnesota House. She expressed pride in having such a dedicated partner "in building a stronger Minnesota."
