Rep. Ilhan Omar shares updates on Congo crisis briefing and local events

Representative Ilhan Omar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 5th district, shared updates on her recent activities through a series of tweets on March 12, 2025. Omar has been an active member of Congress since replacing Keith Ellison in 2019 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

On March 12, Omar chaired a briefing for the US-Africa Policy Working Group that focused on the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She provided a recap of this meeting via Twitter: "Congresswoman Omar chaired a briefing of the US-Africa Policy Working Group, focusing on the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo."

In another tweet from March 12, Representative Omar paid tribute to Jeremy Zavitz, a teacher at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis. She highlighted his contributions to education and his impact on generations of students: "Jeremy Zavitz was a beloved father, husband, and teacher at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis." She expressed her honor in recognizing his life and legacy on the House Floor.

Omar also announced upcoming town halls scheduled for next week. In her tweet from March 12, she invited constituents to join her for both tele-town hall and an in-person session to discuss community issues: "Join me for my March town halls! Next week, I’m hosting TWO town halls to hear directly from you about the issues facing our community."
