Rep. Ilhan Omar promotes racial equity in healthcare through discussions

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a U.S. Congress member representing Minnesota's 5th district, shared updates on her recent activities via social media. Her posts focused on events and initiatives aimed at promoting equity in health care and celebrating Black history.

On February 19, 2025, Rep. Omar announced an event scheduled for that day at 4 p.m. CT. She invited the public to join her and "@D4Commish and I for a conversation with health experts about how we can work together to ensure racial and gender equity in cardiovascular health care."

Later that day, she shared her visit to the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery. In a post made on February 19, 2025, she highlighted "their new exhibit for Black History Month, 'The Black Vote,'" which explores the struggle of Black Americans to secure voting rights in Minnesota.

Continuing her focus on health issues, Rep. Omar hosted a panel discussion on February 20, 2025. She tweeted about the event stating that she "hosted a Black Women’s Heart Health Panel with @D4Commish and other experts to highlight their amazing work in our district on cardiovascular health awareness and equity." The discussion underscored the impact of cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death in the U.S., particularly among Black women.
