Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota's 5th district since 2019, recently shared several updates regarding her engagements and initiatives via social media. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, and residing in Minneapolis, Omar continues to advocate for various causes both locally and nationally.
On February 1, 2025, Rep. Ilhan Omar expressed her honor in joining Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, City Councilmember Aurin Chowdhury, and members of the Minneapolis City Council to recognize CM Chowdhury’s resolution supporting her Neighbors Not Enemies Act.
In another update on the same day, Omar mentioned being honored to present Congressional Record entries to Former Minnesota State Representative Hodan Hassan for her service to Minnesota communities and to the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners for their efforts to end veteran homelessness in the county.
Omar also detailed a meeting with Minnesota community leaders where they discussed ways to protect immigrant communities from what she described as "indiscriminate attacks from the Trump Administration." She conveyed this message through a social media post on February 1, 2025.
