Gov. Tim Walz ordered Minnesota residents to not gather in groups, but then he had a local performer come and perform at the governor’s mansion.
Walz’s own executive order prohibited social gatherings, even outdoor recreation activities where people would be in proximity.
“Just another in a long line of our ‘elite rulers’ breaking their own edicts with huge grins on their faces,” a Reddit user noted. “This same governor is sending his attack dog Attorney General after bars and restaurants with fines and revocation of liquor and health department licenses for daring to open against his orders during his shutdown.”
Other Reddit users echoed the resentment against Walz for breaking his own orders.
“He’s one of the worst, right up there with Newsom and Whitmer. I’m not surprised,” one user said.
Another was angered because Walz had already closed gyms and indoor dining and had rules for the state that were more strict than Michigan, New Jersey and Washington.
“As businesses began to announce that they would reopen on Friday regardless of his announcement to extend, he delayed his announcement to Monday, then delayed it again until Friday,” the user replied. “When cases in every neighboring state dropped without lockdowns, him and all his worshippers refuse to acknowledge that the lockdowns didn't do (expletive).”
One user said the governor was doing whatever he wanted and was fully aware the federal government could not intervene.
“He knows that most of the bars and restaurants will never come back and will result in permanment (sic) mass unemployment,” the user replied.
Another user said a lot of people aren’t even aware of the executive orders by Walz.
“I’ve spoken to people who were talking about seeing family and I said ‘Yeah, that’s illegal’ joking about how ridiculous it is,” the user said. “They stared at me and said ‘No it’s not; that’s not what he said in his press conference.’ Which led to me pulling the order up and showing them. This has happened a few times. I think people have just got fatigue (sic) over the whole thing and aren’t following closely. Which unfortunately lessens the impact on them of our hypocrite of a governor breaking his own rules.”
