MINNEAPOLIS – Former Lt. Gov. Michelle Fischbach said Thursday that she will organize a “Conservative Squad” with three other Republican women all eyeing roles in the U.S. House of Representatives for 2020, as initially reported by WCCO 4.
Fischbach, along with other members Jessica Taylor (running for Alabama’s 2nd District), Nancy Mace (running for South Carolina’s 1st District) and Beth Van Duyne (running for Texas’ 24th District), formed the group in an effort to fight socialism in the United States. Fischbach is currently looking to replace long-term Democrat Rep. Collin Peterson for Minnesota’s 7th District.
The "Conservative Squad" comes in response to President Donald Trump verbally attacking a group of Democratic congresswomen who referred to themselves as “the Squad.” Squad members consisted of a number of politicians who identify themselves as democratic socialists, including state Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Hennepin County.
Fischbach said Congressional Democrats are spending too much time becoming involved in Trump’s impeachment process and not enough focusing on matters that impact America, including the redesigned North American trade pact (USMCA).
“You take a look at western Minnesota, the district that I live in, and [Democrats are] ignoring USMCA,” Fischbach said. “They’ve finally gotten around to it a year later, but the farmers out in western Minnesota need USMCA. [The Democrats] have waited and waited, but they have plenty of time for impeachment and the sham that that is.”
Fischbach took to Twitter to thank Fox & Friends for allowing the group to introduce themselves on that network.
“Thank you to Fox and Friends, Ainsley Earhardt, Steve Doocy, and Brian Kilmeade for having us on this morning to discuss the #conservativesquad,” Fischbach said in a Dec. 12 tweet. “Together, we will #beatsocialism and help President Trump keep America great.”
The Conservative Squad’s website is now accepting fundraising donations from the general public.
