St. Thomas women’s golf is in sixth place after the opening round of the Summit League Championship at Longbow Golf Club, according to an April 26 announcement.
The team is currently ten strokes behind the top three and trails tournament leader South Dakota State by fourteen strokes as they head into day two. The competition remains close with several teams vying for a spot among the leaders.
Kathryn VanArragon, who was named to the All-Summit League First Team, led St. Thomas with a score of 75 (+4), placing her in a three-way tie for eighth after eighteen holes. The team finished with a total score of 312 (+28) on what was described as a challenging day for all competitors, as no golfer finished below par. Madison Hicks from North Dakota State leads individually after shooting a 72 (+1).
Emma Davies contributed with a score of 78 (+7), putting her inside the top twenty, while Amelia Morton followed closely with a 79 (+8), tying for twenty-second place. Karen Lind Stefansdottir completed her round at 80 (+9), and Genevieve Birkeland shot an 82 (+11).
The Tommies are set to return to Longbow Golf Club tomorrow morning for the second round of the three-day championship.
