The St. Thomas Tommies are set to travel to Iowa City for their final midweek baseball game of the 2026 season, according to a May 4 announcement from the team. The matchup against the Iowa Hawkeyes is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, with a first pitch at 6 p.m.

This game marks an important point in the Tommies’ season as they look to improve their record and gain momentum heading into the closing stretch. In their most recent series, St. Thomas faced Oral Roberts but dropped all three games despite strong performances from Easton Fritcher, who led with a .438 batting average over the weekend, Tanner Recchio with four runs batted in, and Owen Bond recording two doubles. The Tommies have yet to secure a win against Iowa since their first meeting in 2022; most recently, they lost 7-2 on March 10.

Iowa enters this contest with an overall record of 28-18 and stands at .500 in Big Ten Conference play (12-12). Gabe Mitchell leads the Hawkeye offense with a .388 batting average this year while their pitching staff holds an earned run average of 5.92.

St. Thomas has also been involved in notable games this season—including a marathon contest against Northern Colorado that lasted 21 innings over two days—setting records for both teams after nine scoreless extra innings before ending on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the twenty-first inning.

Head Coach Chris Olean is now leading his seventeenth season at St. Thomas, amassing an overall record of 414-256-1 since taking charge prior to the 2010 campaign. Olean has been recognized as NCAA Division III Region Coach of the Year three times and guided his teams to multiple Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships along with several deep postseason runs.
