The University of St. Thomas baseball team lost to the University of Minnesota on April 14, falling 24-2 in the third game of a four-game series. The defeat leaves St. Thomas with a season record of 6-24 and a Summit League record of 2-8.

The game began with St. Thomas taking an early lead as Owen Bond scored from third base on a wild pitch by Minnesota’s starting pitcher Luke Ryerse. However, Minnesota quickly responded with two runs in the second inning and continued to build their advantage throughout the game.

Despite opportunities in the second and third innings, St. Thomas was unable to tie the score before Minnesota extended its lead further, scoring four runs in the fourth inning for a 6-1 advantage. Tanner Recchio drove in Adam Puder with a single during the fourth, narrowing the gap to 6-2, but that would be as close as St. Thomas would get.

Minnesota broke open the contest by adding nine runs in the fifth inning and eight more in the sixth, bringing their total to 23 runs after six innings played. The Gophers added one final run in their half of the sixth inning for a final score of 24-2.

St. Thomas is scheduled to resume play on Friday, April 17 when they host Northern Colorado at Koch Diamond for a Summit League doubleheader beginning at noon.

The loss marks another challenge for St. Thomas this season as they look ahead to upcoming conference games.
