St. Thomas Tommies defeat Omaha Mavericks 11-5 in baseball matchup

The St. Thomas Tommies defeated the Omaha Mavericks 11-5 on April 25 in Omaha, Nebraska. The Tommies recorded a total of 15 hits during the game, with Joe Roder leading the team by collecting three hits and three runs batted in. Teammates Tanner Recchio, Adam Puder, Zan Von Schlegell, and Nolan Welke each contributed two hits.

Owen Marsolek was credited with the win after pitching for seven and one-third innings and striking out four batters.

The scoring began in the third inning when Joe Roder singled to bring home Tanner Recchio, who had reached base on a single and advanced through stolen bases. In the fifth inning, Roder hit a two-run home run to extend St. Thomas’s lead to 3-0. Nolan Welke drove in his first run as a Tommie during the sixth inning to make it 4-0.

Omaha responded with a two-run home run in their half of the sixth inning but St. Thomas answered by scoring five runs in the seventh from RBIs by Berrisford, Puder, Welke, and Fritcher. The Mavericks scored three more runs in the eighth to narrow the gap to 9-5 before St. Thomas added two additional runs in the ninth thanks to RBIs from Maulik and Recchio.

The Tommies are scheduled to finish their conference series at Omaha on Sunday, April 26.
