St. Thomas softball matched its program record for wins on April 30 with a 10-2 victory over North Dakota at South Field.
The game saw St. Thomas improve to a 33-16 overall record and an 11-4 mark in the Summit League. The Tommies’ win came in six innings, tying the team’s highest single-season win total.
North Dakota scored first, but St. Thomas quickly responded as Avery Wukawitz hit an inside-the-park home run after Laken Lienhard’s lead-off walk, putting the Tommies ahead. In the second inning, Grace Nosan added a two-run homer and Cassidy Carby contributed with a double that drove in two more runs.
Pitcher Ella Cook played a key role both on the mound and at bat, pitching six innings while allowing only two runs (one earned) on seven hits, walking four and striking out ten—her season high and one short of her career best. Cook also had an RBI double during the game.
Despite several threats from North Dakota throughout the match—including runners left on base in multiple innings—Cook managed to limit damage each time. In relief for North Dakota’s Tegan Livesay during the sixth inning, Unity Nelson entered but was unable to stop St. Thomas from securing the run-rule victory after further contributions from Wukawitz and Carby.
Looking ahead, St. Thomas will face North Dakota again tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., concluding their regular season series.
