The University of St. Thomas softball team split a doubleheader against the Wisconsin Badgers on April 21, earning a 3-0 win in the first game before falling 4-3 in the second. The games were played in Madison, Wisconsin.

The results highlight St. Thomas’s competitive season as they improved to a record of 30-14 overall and 8-4 in Summit League play. The opening victory marked the Tommies’ first win over Wisconsin since 2023.

In game one, pitcher Ella Cook delivered a standout performance, securing her sixth shutout of the season by holding Wisconsin to three hits across seven innings. Offensively, Grace Nosan drove in Cook with a double for an early lead, Abbi Stierlen scored on an error, and Cassidy Carby added insurance with her eleventh home run of the year.

Game two saw St. Thomas take another early lead after Miley Wichman scored on a wild pitch and back-to-back home runs from Carby and Cook extended their advantage to 3-0 by the fourth inning. However, despite starter Ava Kleinfieldt’s efforts, Wisconsin mounted a seventh-inning rally to score three runs and claim a walk-off victory.

Looking ahead, St. Thomas will return to Summit League competition this weekend with an away series against South Dakota State beginning Friday.
