St. Thomas men’s golf finished in sixth place at the Summit League Championship, according to a May 5 announcement from the team. The tournament took place at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona, where the Tommies posted their best round of the event with a three-over-par 287 on Tuesday.
The result marked a strong finish for St. Thomas, although the team slipped two spots after low rounds by Oral Roberts and South Dakota State. North Dakota State maintained its lead throughout the competition and secured the team title.
Gavin Newkirk led St. Thomas in the final round with a two-under 69, moving up seven spots to tie for 14th overall after making three birdies over his last four holes. Owen Rexing was consistent across all rounds and finished eighth individually with a total score of one-over par after shooting a two-over 74 in his final round.
Senior Mason Roloff closed out his tournament with an even-par 71, which was his best performance of the championship. Tyler McNeive tied for 19th following a three-over-par final round, while Zach Rouleau shot five-over but did not have his score count toward the team’s total on Tuesday.
Team scores were as follows: St. Thomas placed sixth with rounds of 289-290-287 for an overall score of +14 (866). Individual placements included Rexing tied for eighth (+1), Newkirk tied for fourteenth (+3), McNeive tied for nineteenth (+4), Rouleau tied for thirty-third (+11), and Roloff finishing thirty-eighth (+15).
The results reflect progress within the program as several players concluded their collegiate careers on positive notes.
