The St. Louis County Board is set to decide on funding for nine projects focused on preventing and controlling aquatic invasive species (AIS). The final decision on the funding will take place at the Board meeting scheduled for February 24 in Cotton.
The county receives funds annually through the AIS Prevention Aid Program, which is distributed by the state legislature to support local efforts in stopping new introductions and reducing the spread of invasive species in waterways. St. Louis County uses an application process to select organizations that propose science-based solutions addressing natural resource sustainability as well as social and economic impacts.
Since the inception of the AIS Prevention Aid Program in 2014, St. Louis County has awarded more than $7.5 million to initiatives that align with its prevention plan’s seven categories and associated actions.
